  1. No that isn't a misspelling of '-gate' to indicate some TdF scandal but a
    question about the gait of the riders.

    Is it just me or does their gate seem oddly and awkwardly jerky and bouncy
    especially when they stand to sprint?

    I heard one of the commentators note Lance Armstrong's awkward style but
    they all look like that to me.

    Not that I would presume to compare myself to any of them I don't think I
    have a similar gait - though I've never recorded myself riding so who know.
    Nor have I noticed it amongst other riders I've seen, even serious
    racing-bike, pace-line & de rigeur clothing types.

    I'm wondering if it is a result of their particularly specialized muscle
    development.

    IMO, that's because they go "all out" on the sprints. Max burst of power
    for a brief time period.
