  1. I understand that when a rider crashes within 3km of the finish he gets the
    timing of the group he was in. Would that still apply if he was brought down
    by a spectator when he was out on his own at the front when it happened?

    I wondered because that would seem to give him the stage win, even if it
    looked likely that he would be caught by the bunch.

    Why? "the group he was in" consists of himself. If he gets the time of
    "his group" then he gets the time he crosses the line...

    The 'group' he was in wouldn't have crossed the line so wouldn't have a
    time.
    I would think he would be given the timing of the following bunch -
    assuming he got up and eventually crossed the line.
