i've searched on google (which is useless for bike rides) but i'm hoping that someone out there will know of a relatively safe bike ride from launceston to scottsdale? i'm going down to tassie for my summer holidays, and am staying in a town near scottsdale, but have no way of getting my bike from the airport to the house i'm staying in other than to ride it. the problem is, the way we drive is renowned for the its treacherous falls, and dangerous log trucks. the falls i can handle (just take it easy), but if anyone knows a route that isnt used by truckies, that would be much appreciated.
Not a Tasmanian, but did a driving tour of Tassie recently...... There's basically two main roads going from Launceston to Scottsdale - the A3 and the B81. Logging trucks seem to be a problem on both. If you check out http://www.street-directory.com.au/sd_new/mapsearch.cgi (you will need to zoom in a bit) you can see there is a C-road (C827) which goes from Nunamara on the A3 up to the B81 not far from Scottsdale, which might be a better option. The only downside I can see is that the area is fairly hilly, so riding it could be a bit challenging (don't know how fit you are)
Hopefully someone with local knowledge will jump on and give you some accurate information.
