Hello all, I am new to the world of tandeming and the better half and I are looking for a good used road tandem. I am aprox. 5'11" and she is 5'2" we are currently looking at an older cannondale r1000 tandem, I think it is early to mid 90's becuase it has down tube shifters. The size is 23x18, do you tandem freaks out there think this will fit us? If so what do you think is a good price considering that it is in good condition. Thanks in advance for all your helpfull feedback.

That sounds reasonable size-wise to me. Typically tandem stokers don't clip out of the pedals at stoplights so there is no need to size the rear seat tube so that she can put a foot down.
Honestly, price is whatever you can negotiate. Shipping a tandem any significant distance will cost at least $100.00 so, unless you're talking about a pretty high end machine, you're effectively limited to the local market with a limited number of buyers and sellers. It's whoever blinks first.

we ride a tandem mtn bike. we have done a couple of 100 km rides and since the fit is off a bit it hurts a little more. it is tremendous fun. and it is something that we do together. and in case you have not ridden one be patient with each other. we did a lot of wobbling. practice practice practice, starting and stopping and do short trips. for example we start on the left pedal with a ready set go. allowing each other to get in the toe clips. it does not really matter what you spend if you guys have fun on it. just remember to be patient with each other. one other thing they really get going on the downhill.
