This is not the special tandem bike with 2 sets of pedals. What I mean in this thread is the bike with a seat for a passenger. It was in vogue when I was young and I would see some of my classmates in that passenger seat when their fathers would bring them to school on their old bikes - the one with thin but big wheels and with the bell for the horn. Some of those old bikes, aside from the passenger seat, has a basket in front.

Nothing special, just reminiscing.

My grandma had a bike like that, but it was for two small children. It was quite fun, but no one wanted to be the person in the front!

That is to say, a baby or kiddie seat mounted on either the the front or the rear? Sure I've seen them. They used to be fairly popular. There is also a different transport mode for the poor, like my family was. When I was a kid I used to give my brother and sister rides by letting them sit on the handlebars and/or the top tube. The trouble with either riding the handlebar or the kiddie seats is, if the bike dumped for any reason, the baby or kid would get dumped too, and usually would be injured (along with the person supplying the pedal power.)

These days there is a better way: use a bike trailer that has child seats in it (a local store sells a model with a 2-kid capacity), seat belts, and a nicely done enclosure. One can have a trailer for hauling groceries or other reasonably-sized objects too.

Thanks
