Mark, I have not ridden there since the late '80s but the
amount of paved bike/multi use trails has improved greatly
since then. The true bike trail is parallel to the north end
of highway 89 on the west side of the lake. The majority of
the roads are two lane and heavily traveled all day long. In
many ways it is a great ride and it is a miserable ride.
There is a lot of interesting riding there. IMHO it is south
of the lake where the legendary Death Ride takes place. My
personal favorite is the mountain bike 6 mile downhill.
About a 30 mile loop with very serious, technical stuff on
the downhill. Also the pony express descent is great. It is
a shortish mostly pavement uphill starting in Meyers, going
up Hwy 50 to Ebbitts pass summit and then down a wild
singletrack. But back to recumbents: if you are into serious
climbing, start in Meyers, go over Luther summit and down to
Woodfords, on to Genoa and up Kingsbury Grade to Spooner
Summit and then the easy part along Pioneer trail to the
start. Best wishes, let us know what you end up doing. Frank
(I've never ridden a recumbent there.)
