  1. Hi,

I am training for a 1/4 triathlon: 1500 m swim. I never have swimmed in open water. Will swimming
in open water with a wetsuit delay my time, or will I go faster. What other conditions will I take
    in concern?
Note: cause of bad weather conditions in my country.

  2. Bernard,

like so many questions the answer is "it depends on many things"

Things that might mean you go faster...
    - you are a poor swimmer....the wetsuit makes you float better and so swim easier
    - you are full of adrenalin in the race

Things that might mean you go slower
    - you hate wearing a wetsuit and find it restricts your movement (means you have the wrong
    size wetsuit)
    - you are nervous
    - the start of an open water swim can be very difficult as everyone tries to be a thte front
    - you don't swim in a straight line
    - the water is choppy with many waves
    - there is a current in the water

I suggest you look in the rec.sport.triathlon newsgroup - someone asked this question there recently
and there are many people with open water swim experience there as well. "Bernard" <bernard> wrote

  3. Hi Bernard,

I am a Triathlete listening in for some swim tips from these guys. Pool swimming is very good
training for the open water, but think about it like this. Pool training for the open water is the
same as - track sessions for cross country races. Nothing prepares you for that mass start.

    You'll love it

    Tommy
