  1. i have used swimming to build my arm strength during
running. i would do laps in a pool with a buoy between my
legs. this is in add to running. also a side benefit the
change up kept me going. i have found that my arms strength
were helped greatly and did not 'sag' during my latter miles
    on my marathon plodzilla

I try to do laps at the "Y" pool once a weekend, and it
hasn't hurt me any. Despite Macelroy's bizarre comment that
this will ad unwanted bulk to the upper body of a runner,
I'm still a shirt-size "medium" and wear XL running shorts.
That sounds like a runner's build to me....

i think this same effect has given me a boost in running. i
swim at least once, and sometimes twice per week, doing
drills, speed work and distance swimming. i strongly believe
that the increased upper body strength gained from swimming
aids a person in running. a strong core is vital to both
sports, so as long as your midsection is strong, you'll
perform with less fatigue and with better form.

just swimming won't bulk anyone up that much. lifting
weights will do that, but simply swimming will just increase
strength and tone, without any excessive bulking up.
