  1. Howdy: I'm very ignorant about swimming equipment, but am interested
in purchasing a pair of swim fins. I have limited income, so can't
spend much money. I was looking at the Aquasphere Zip
    fins(http://www.swim2000.com/checkout.php?PHPSESSID=76219003070cf623aa7e54a3dee1367a)
    and the Markwort
    (http://www.onlinesports.com/pages/I,MW-SMSF600RY.html). These are in
my price range. Could someone please tell me if they are any good or
anything about the stores themselves?? I have been told that the open
heel model is easier to get to fit than a closed heel model, so these
are open healed. Was that bad advice??

I'm just going to be using these to paddle/snorkle around the local
pool. I would appriciate any help or info that any body can provide.
    Thank you.

There are three basic types that I'm familiar with: Scubapro swim fins,
Churchills, and Duck Feet. All three types are used by a lot of swimmers
for training, but there are cheap versions out there that don't work
very well. Churchills are surf fins and the most like the ones at the
link you provided. Those look pretty good, but you should try them on
before you buy. You will normally where socks inside them for training.

I use zoomers. Why try second best?

    Why did you?

  5. There's an article at

    http://swimming.about.com/cs/flippers/a/swim_fins.htm

about fin design and evaluation for swim training. I recently did a
little research to find out how many rubber swim fins, numerous
swimmers' fins of choice, are in production today:

    http://www.tomwilson.com/david/water/rubberswimfins.pdf

It's already a 4.5 MB download and still incomplete. Comfort and fit
are my main criteria when purchasing fins. My favourite fins are Balco
Sprints, which are full-foot, broader fitting and so comfortable that
it's easy to forget I'm wearing them. However, fin choice is a very
personal issue and you need to find a pair that fits and suits you.
