1. I have an older (84?) SR frame with Sun Tour Superbe pro components with friction shifters on the downtube and a 7 sprocket freewheel. I wish to use this bike for triathlons but would like to upgrade to indexed shifting. Any suggestions on the easiest/best method(s)?

If it's got a freewheel, get a shimano compatible one with shimano sis RD(non DA usless you also use DA shifters) and shimano index 7 speed shifters. That's the easy way.I ain't gonna try and write the book on all the other possibilities.

  3. Is it really worth trying to upgrade a beautiful 7sp friction shifting group?

Just a question... I would keep it the way it is. IMHO of course. 🙂
