Sun Assault 700c rims

Have one laced to a Phil Wood hub, 32 Sapim spokes, butted.
Have a couple of hundred miles on it. NOS rim from a bike
shop closing up- $25 for the rim ($20 for the hub, $20 for
the spokes, laced myself).

The joint was off- not simply off-center, but off-size. One
side was flush while the other side had a jump. Appeared to
be epoxied, and squishing it didn't help. I took a Dremel to
it to remove the tick-tick-tick while braking for my peace
of mind. Other than that, it was fine.

Holding up well, no problems in lacing or staying true
beyond any other rim I have laced. I use it for city
commuting and errands. So far, which isn't far at all,
no regrets.

I'm curious, too, as they would appear to be the current
incarnation of the old Mistral M14A. (The current ME14A is a
completey different cross section and is eyeletted) I have
been using several of those as my primary wheels for
probably 10+ years and found them to be light yet hold up
well for my use. They had very little wear until the hard
anodizing finally started to wear through and now are
wearing at a much faster rate. I note the Assaults have a
machined braking surface. That doesn't appeal to me but
seems to be the norm these days.

If my M14A's need replacing the Assaults look like they
might be a good hassle- free "direct replacement" option.
