  1. This is a bit too late question, but it is useful to get info for next year too. What is suggested milage base to be done before starting some serious training?

I have heard about 1000-2000km. What your experience tells?

  2. Controversial.

Rather than miles, I would think about 4 months of progressively longer low-moderate intensity riding. Say building from 6 hours/week up to 12 hours by the 8th week, with a few that hit the 15 hour range.

There are plenty who would differ with this. But this should give you the ability to then train more intensively without wiping yourself out.

  3. I just train year round. In the winter I do at least 3-4 days a week on the trainer to keep the legs from a total muscle breakdown.

  4. Get yourself Friel's "The Cyclists Training Bible" - it'll blow your mind...
