I want to have a built-in fridge and freezer in my kitchen. A friend of mine has a Sub-Zero fridge and freezer (601R and 601F) next to each other. I checked out the price on these things, and they list for over three thousand each.
Frigidaire makes a similar fridge/freezer pair. The Sub-Zero units are about 20 cu. ft. each, while the Frigidaires are roughly 17 cu. ft. The Frigidaire units list for about a thousand each.
My question: can the Sub-Zero fridge and freezer possibly be worth that much more?

By definition, if people will pay the price, then they are worth the money. They may not be worth the asking price to you, however. Upscale appliances often bring with them extra features which you may or may not want. Some refrigerators are quieter than others, and some are more energy efficient. Another consideration is reliability. Before spend upwards of $10K for a refrigerator and freezer, I would spend a few dollars on access to Consumer Reports to check for the service history for the units you want. Generally speaking, Frigidaire isn't a great brand and since various companies make goods with the Frigidaire label, and since Electrolux bought the major appliance branch of Frigidaire fairly recently, I would be reluctant to purchase that brand.
