aren't bar ends usually curved at the end, so you can lean over (with wrist on the handlebars) and grip the curved part of the bar end?
i know that their other function is to get better body positioning on climbs...wherein you grip the straight part of the bar while standing on you bike...
i need them so i can extend a little bit more for road riding on my mtb... if they serve only to help better my climb then ill look for something else 🙂

I have the longer, curving style bar-ends and the intent is to give a different (better?) hand position during climbing. I don't like standing while climbing with my hand on the regular bar position. I like the north-south orientation while standing. The added hand position on the curve is gravy for me. A nice switch on the back when riding for a long time on the flat or even when doing extended seated climbing. For me, they're invaluable. (Get curved ones...)

I missed the OP, and he probably said that he's not riding off-road, but... Additionally, the curved ones that I have protect the hands from vines and trees and such.
