Are you wanting to use Look-type pedals or SPD-type? You can get the latter
in shoes you can walk in, the former won't go due to size constraints.

ge3t a odor eater and cut it to size now get a bit of hadbord or plywud and
put yor odur eater on it and cut it to the same size and put it in yor shoe.
if you turn it over to make the other one, you get left with a a spare oror
eatar that you can use for hopping races.

Not sure if you can still get them, but I have a pair of Lake SPD off-road
shoes which have a recessed SPD cleat and a 'normal' sole around it.
So, you can ride and walk easily.

My favourite SPD shoes were a pair of Lake (LX50 ?) that looked like
Vans skateboard shoes. Great shoes, good to ride in and good enough to
walk around the office in during the day. Stiff soles though, so I
wouldn't have liked to walk far in them.

Finally they gave up when the sole cracked widthways. I think this is
going to be a problem with walking far in any stiff shoes.

I wonder if a sheet of carbon fibre would be the best addition to a
"conversion" shoe ?
