STI barrel adjusters

  1. Hello,

    I have a second-hand touring bike with STI shifters and barrel adjusters on
    the tubes just a few centimeters from the shifters.
    They don't seem to do anything, I can turn them either way without any
    visible change and they don't ever hit a limit. I never had to tweak them
    until now so this is the first time I realise they actually don't do
    anything!
    Is it a well known problem? Maybe the threads are gone...

    I checked mine really closely a few months ago and found that the barrel
    had actually split into 2 pieces and was doing nothing. I removed the
    whole thing altogether...best thing I ever done, never used it anyway.
