  1. Today I took my first ride out in at least a month! Maybe 2...

Anyhow, am hoping to now kickstart the winter I've lost and train towards racing in The Summer. A delayed start rather than being ready to go in a month...

I had Cadence on & put on the HRM just to see figures. I've no Max HR to set any zonal training, but the ride was always going to be steady, low gears on rolling roads. Attempted to keep a high cadence of 95 but could not control this on the route and HR was up to high 170's if I was attempting it.

I'm considering reverting to rollers or turbo (for extended time) to keep a control of cadence & HR until I can see some fitness developing. Say a week or 2? Maybe just ride on Sunday or Saturday to spice up the routine without computer or HRM.

If I kept riding at these figures on the road it would have a negative effect I assume and my base training would not see benefits.

A deflating ride, but perhaps am paying too much emphasis to figures at the moment?
    Any suggestions?

  2. A few points:-
    1. HR is a highly variable system of measuring fitness, simply because there are many factors which affect it.

    2. Why are you trying to hold a cadence of 95?

    3. Adaptions to high cadence will develop it if you keep doing it.

    4. No reason not to ride on the road, if your HR is high then slow it down a bit, self selected cadence is fine.

    Incorrect.

    Yes.

Just ride for a bit and your fitness will develop to the point that you can enter into a more structured plan. Road, turbo or rollers is fine during this period.
