  1. For example in a stage race like the Tour De France.

    Say a good 200 K stage.
    What sort of speeds do the riders sit on in the early part of the race, like
    the first hour or so.

    I know they average around the 45 k an hour mark for the whole race, but I
    wanted to know how they start a race, what speeds do they do.

    If you have a look at the site

    http://tdf.polar.fi/tourdefrance/heartrates.html

    it has speed (blue) as well as the altitude (maroon), and heart rate (red)
    for all stages.
