If you bought the part new, you should be eligible for some sort of warranty coverage--US warranty is 2 years according to their website. Contact the SRAM distributor again and inquire as to warranty replacement. If they won't help try the Asian headquarters in Taiwan (contact info on SRAM website: http://www.sram.com/en/about/main.php)

SRAM is a pain in the rear end when it comes to getting customer service. You will probably get the same amount of satisfaction talking to a tree. Let us know what you do and how you fare with this. If all else fails, take it to a machine shop and ask them to put in a thread insert like a Helicoil in the stripped hole. This will make it almost good as new and you won't be able to tell by looking at it that it has been repaired.

I've had the opposite experience. Every issue we've had with a SRAM component has been fixed quickly and proffessionally. In both cases with their new road components they overnighted us a new component.
