Just bought some new race wheels. Now I'm thinking that another cassette is ultimately going to be better than switching back and forth. I currently have a dura ace cassette on my bike, but I'm not sure I want to spend an extra $60 for another dura ace cassette. I'm considering either a SRAM or Ultegra cassette. The SRAMs look pretty close to Ultegra (maybe a little lighter). Has anyone used these? Maybe I should leave the dura ace cassette on the race wheels and get something else for my training wheels.
Also thinking that when I replace my chain I would go with the SRAM hollow pin chain because it's light and easy to get off for a good cleaning. Does this chain work with dura ace and ultegra?
When you hit 10s, the shifting is really close. There's little margin for error. Stick with all DA, IMHO. With 9s, it's not going to matter too much. The advantage to Dura Ace is that it will have some ti cogs - it will be lighter and probably wear better. The 9s Dura Ace cassette you should be able to find for less than $60 online. Check www.comparisonpricing.com for the best component prices. I'd definitely get another cassette.
If you want to get a bit esoteric, there are some smokin parts which you can buy. You can get 10s all titanium cassettes and ti chains for Dura Ace 9s or 10s. Needless to say, these will set you back a pretty penny. Also check out Zero Gravity brakes - sub 200g, all ti, with carbon brake pads for under $350.
