I had used this HB long ago, and had liked it because it was similar to the
Cinelli 64-40 Giro d'Italia HB (one of my favorites), although a small amount
narrower (39).
I recently bought a so-called "NOS" version of the Sakae bar online, but when I
received it, it was not as expected. The "bottoms" were a bit flared out
(nearly 42 c-c), the drop was deeper, and the middle sleeve was smoothed out and
polished to make it *appear* as an externally butted HB, much like how many
newer HB's actually are.
The old version, the one I was expecting, is more "standard." It has the
un-hidden sleeve, shallow drop, shorter reach, no flaring, and is about 39 cm
c-c. Like I wrote, similar to the famous Cinelli 64-40, clamp notwithstanding.
So my question for those in the know is:
Did I get a modified HB (sold as "standard NOS"😉, or did Sakae do something
silly and give a "newer" but different bar the same name as the old bar? Argh!
Anyone want to buy a new bar with some flare?
