on Sunday. It looks like there will be some good
runners there.

as a back-of-the-packer, here's my strategy for this race.
First, my time goal: 54 minutes. I loked at last year's
results and saw that a HUGE number of finishers came in
between 55 and 65 minutes. So... finishing in front of this
big group will give me a respectable position (for a
beginner 50-54 age-grouper).
Prep: Mostly treadmill. 20 to 30 K a week. I did an outdoor
run 2 weeks ago on a comparable course in 57 minutes. Tough
at the end but not race-tough. So, I'm confident.
First 2Ks will be run slow then I'll speed up. I intend
to walk the 4K water stop. My arrival time there will
tell me if I'm on schedule or behind. I really doubt if
I'll be ahead. I'll skip the 7K water and pick up the
pace while I pass it.
The last K will be at a steadilly increasing pace. And,
naturally, the last few hundred yards will be all out.
Like a nut.
I'm still figuring out where to position myself at the
start. Certainly no-where near the front. But I don't want
to get stuck behind walking groups and have to waste energy
going around. I figure after a few more races this question
will no longer concern me. ...thehick
