The Churches and Chapels Sponsored Bike and Hike on Saturday 10th
September makes a great day out for everyone - and benefits some of
Derbyshire's loveliest old buildings. Anyone can join in, at any level
of fitness, whether church member or not.
Pick your own route linking any number of the 160 Derbyshire churches
and chapels taking part. Include as many or as few as you like. Each
one will be open, many offering refreshments. As well as getting your
card stamped, you have an opportunity to look around the buildings,
often in the company of an informative guide from the congregation who
can point out the building's most interesting features.
Organised by the Derbyshire Churches and Chapels Preservation Trust,
money raised goes to preserve the fabric of these historic buildings.
Half the sponsorship money goes to the church or chapel of your choice,
the rest goes to the Trust. Around £18,000 has been raised each year
since Derbyshire began taking part in 1992.
The Bike and Hike is a national event organised on a county basis. It
began in Suffolk in 1982 and has grown fast with 31 counties taking
