Reviewing the official results for Stage 1 today, I wondered why all the riders finishing
subsequent to the first group (apart from a few blokes 3 minutes or more off the back) were given
the same time.
My understanding of UCI rule 2.6.026 had always been that in order to be credited with the time of
the rider or riders in whose company a racer was riding at the time of the fall, puncture or
mechanical incident the rider must have suffered such a fall, puncture or mechanical incident. nt to
the first group (apart from a few blokes 3 minutes or more off the back) were given the same time.

It didn't seem to me from the coverage I saw that all of the riders fell.
And temporary road blockages such as railroad level crossings, crashes, labour demonstrations and
freedom fighters showing the flag have always been just part of bike racing........
Hey and what happens if a solo guy is racing for home five minutes ahead of the chasers and hits a
pothole (cop, kid, spectator, cat, dog, nana, etc) and is so winded that he can't continue until
after the chase group has passed him or he gets passed as he limps the last 999 meters to the line
carrying his mangled velo? Does he still win, and what time does he get?
