  1. I've been mostly doing pretty well; meal+2hrs <140, usually
<120. Last night I took a friend to dinner and seriously
overdid carbs: bread, pasta, pint of Guinness....
    10:15PM, about 2.5 hours after dinner: 189
    11:15AM before bed: 100.

No exercise in those two hours, just reading, mooching
around, trying to find something worth watching in nearly
200 channels (failed), getting ready for bed, watching some
more of "Name of the Rose."

Does this mean that my type II body is regulating better
than I think, or is this a typical reaction to overload?

I was 118 fasting, about 10 above my usual.

Now, out to do a bit of "weeding meditation."

If your meal was almost all carbs, then you did indeed have
a spike and subsequent plummet. Alcohol can also lower BG
and not necessarily when you want it to. I wouldn't say that
your body is regulating very well since you reached
unacceptable numbers. I find that if I reach those numbers
(and that's rarely), my BG will usually plummet soon after
if the cause of the high numbers was the food I ate. If
illness is the cause, they may not come down until after I
    am no longer ill.

  3. Well...

If you were 189 at 2.5 hours after dinner, you were likely
well over 200 at 1 hour and possibly 2 hours as well.

    That's not great.

And 12:15a was close to 5 hours after your meal. Getting
back to baseline after 5 hours isn't surprising. Should be
    more like 3-4 hours.

So, no, not great regulating, just seems like an average T2
    response to many carbs.

Had you been a more advanced T2 it would have been worse.

That was your phase II insulin kicking in to bring down the
spike. The spike happened because your phase I insulin isn't
really there any more. Spike like that enough, and you'll
burn out more beta cells and eventually your phase II
    insulin will diminish and disappear.

However, I do allow myself to do that from time to time. I
can't prove it, but I think an occasional spike (one a month
or so) which is brought down quickly by my phase II insulin
either won't do me significant harm or will do it so slowly
that I'll be dead of old age before it can work its evil.
Plus the occasional indulgence is good for the spirit, IMO.

I should do that too, along with some "heavy digging
    intercessory prayer."

Not necessarily. There could have been a lot of fat in the
meal that could have slowed it. We don't know the full menu,
or how this particular person's body responds to the
    specific foods he ate.
