I have a set a Shimano SM-SH55 cleats on my cycling shoes. As the information regarding compatibility with some pedals on the website is rather confusing to say the least, I was wondering if anyone could help me regarding 3 pedals: M970, XT 770 and the M540.
Cheers.

I think that you're OK, but I'm not positive. The 858 pedals are the odd ball and my belief is that the rest of the Shimano mountain pedals share a cleat design.
If you're getting new pedals, my advice is to change out your cleats anyway. Nothing lasts forever and a new pair of bicycle pedal cleats makes a world of difference.
