Don't know if this is something everyone is already hip to , but I don't see it mentioned anywhere. As the days shorten it is easier for the beginning or end of a ride to be in low light conditions. I clip a red keychain led onto a zipper loop of my seat wedge. One with the bulb/ emitter protruding is best for visibility. With bright hubs you also get a good secondary light as it hangs and casts its beam downward on it. Most have a timeout feature, so you have to turn it back on every 9 minutes or so.
It works real well for the time before you require or need proper head / tail lights.

Ummm, why bother? If you know you are gunna be riding in low lite, such as dusk/dawn, then you should use lights. If you are in an accident, even if its minimal low light, the driver will automatically insist it wasn't his/her fault as you didn't have lights on.
I don't take the chance, I ride to work n back 5 days a week in no light or very low light and always turn them on as I also ride past a cop shop, and don't wanna be stopped by a cop who didn't get none the night before...

Well, my last sentence explains why I'd bother. Our legal requirements are defined as more than 30 min pre or post sunrise and sunset.
