  1. Hi all,

I've had a persistent sore throat for just over 6 weeks. It
has been accompanied by lumps in the back of my mouth, with
mild earache and sore glands in my neck. I just can't seem
to shake it and it's starting to drive me crazy. I've
already had EBV and CMV several years ago.

I've been to two GPs. The first GP didn't take any tests
and just hedged his bets and put me on a 10 day course
of Erythromycin (sp?) which didn't help. The second GP
has taken a throat swab, which I'll get the results of
    on Monday.

Do any of you have any tips for shaking this thing, or have
any of you had a similar experience? I know these are fairly
common symptoms for a variety of conditions, but is there
anything else that I should get tested for?

    Many thanks,

    Jamie

In order to properly treat, you must first properly
diagnose. The ding-dongs who treated first with an
antibiotic and THEN obtain a now useless throat swab aren't
    doing you any favors.

EBV and CMV can reactivate, so it's not inconceivable that
    you could have infectious mononucleosis.
