  1. I have always wondered a few things. Here they all are.

    1) Besides the lack of a wall, when competing in short course, and long
course, What is the differences? Which is better? Which is worse? If given
the option, how would one decide one or the other?

    2) Has anyone ever done scientific studies to prove whether or not shaving
realy does make you faster? I know that it makes you think you are, but is
    it true?

    3) When I have raced, I notice that the tempurature of the water is lower.
    Why do they do this?

    4) Can anyone justify spending $300+ for a swimsuit that lasts a couple of
races. Even if I was a record breaker swimmer, would it realy shave off
    enough to justify the cost?

I may have more, I just cannot think of anymore.

    Thanks,

    Micheal

Consistently, only pool length - but there can be other differences
depending on cosntruction of individual pools. Frequently bulkheads are use
to divide long pools, and the dirrefernces between an end wall and a
bulkhead can affect turns. An local example has bulkheads which have many
hols through the wall surfaces, so there is not as great a reflection of the
wash of a (group of) approaching swimmers. As well, the height and edge
design are frequently different between end walls and bulkheads. Bulkheads
are less rigid, and overtightening the centre lane markers can make those
lanes shorter than the outside ones.

Neither, really, but there are horse for courses, as the expression goes.

Some swimmers are better turners than others - they will have a small
    relative advantage in short course.

Google "research swimming shaving" and you'll find enough to keep you happy.

Assuming that it is indeed lower, and you are not just feeling different
because of the situation, it may be because many pools view themselves and
not strictly competion sites, and recreational swimmers like a warmer pool.
For major meets locally, the big pool turns it down a couple of degrees.

Sure. Many people have money to burn.

    That's an individual decision.
