  1. hey everyone

I'm new to the board and not familiar with riding...I've moved around a lot in the past few years and really got into aggressive skating while in Cali but now I live in a town where the cops harass anyone with blades who even lifts a skate in inch off the ground.

Anyway, I could really use a bit of advice on some things. I just recently became interested in riding after hearing a coworker go on and on about how much fun it is and all the great trails he's hit on weekends etc etc. So I decided to go to a local bike shop to check it out. I probably looked pretty clueless because the guy at the store immediately tried to talk me into buying a Specialized Hardrock ( I think it was the Sport Disc?) calling it "The Hummer of Bikes" and saying that it's the bike he rides....you get the idea.

Not wanting to buy on one individual's opinion, I took a couple Specialized catalogs and asked my coworker a bunch of questions about suspension, disc brakes and stuff and he didn't have a clue. SO now I'm doing my own research, which is how I stumped upon this forum.

I looked at the catalogs but they might as well have been in Greek because I don't know the terminology. So...as I said, I'm pretty much a beginner, so I'll start on some simple trails and work my way up so I'd like a bike that would be able to accommodate that. I know I want disc brakes (front and back), something on the lighter side and comfortable.

    Can anyone help me out?

  2. Well first off, if you're looking for a hardtail mtn bike whats your price range?
Also, alot of bikes are starting to come with disk brake options, which are fine but unless you plan on riding in mud, rain, snow or even some races, then they arent worth the extra money.

Ask yourself what type of riding are you looking to do?

I remember when I used to aggressive inline and then went into bmx. So if bmx isnt you're thing but looking to do some street stuff on a bigger bike with shocks, check into trials bikes. Great for technical riding. Anyway I might just be complicating things.

  3. I haven't really resticted myself to a price range because I want to make sure that I get a bike that suits me the best. I'm I'm going to spend a good amount of money, I might as well get what I need, right? I do plan on riding in the rain and mud as I learn more so I know I want. I do hope to get up to riding bmx and definately off road riding. Could anyone suggest a particular brand or bike that they have experience on?
