Soft & thick seat cushion material?

I'd start with dense foams, like gardeners kneeling pads and portable
camping/stadium seats. Softer, I'd add layers or go to upholstery foam.

A ventilated sling of woven nylon webbing might be more comfortable than any padding.

Yup. A light framed webbing has all of the qualities I need.
