Shirley most, if not all, broad gauge track was already 'dual standard' --
i.e. 3 rails -- so it was just a matter of running the 'narrow' trains.

This was covered at length a while back on uk.railway. Although the
changeover was done in a weekend, the actual work to make it std. guage
was going on for many months before that (i.e. laying an extra rail inside
the broad guage), so on the changeover week, all that had to be done was
coonect up the new rails at any junctions, so, although it was done
remarkably quickly, they cannot say it was all done in one weekend.
