  1. I was going to ask if anyone had seen any snakes out on the Yarra singletrack, but now I'll have to report my first sighting for the season.

Yesterday lunchtime I hit the trails (the advantages of working from home). Just after passing under the Chandler Hwy bridge and onto the river trail, I slowly passed a couple of walkers only to stop a few metres past them when I spotted the last few feet of what was probably quite a large tiger snake.

It slowly moved off the trail. The two walkers looked pretty nervous when I told them what I had spotted, but we passed by without seeing it.

I skipped some of the other trails close to the river. That's the first time I've seen one in that area and I can't remember ever spotting any snakes in September. Another symptom of global warming?
