So I consider myself to be an intermediate mt biker. Mostly a roadie, but I've done the occasional trail pretty much all my life.
I rode (or tried to ride) slickrock trail in Moab UT, and got my little butt kicked. I've ridden it before (11 years ago), back when bikes sucked and I think I didn't have much expectation then.
Even on a nice plush full suspension, I still spent half the time walking.
And I didn't want to crash, because it's not the soft humis of the East Coast's trails.
My basic question is: is slickrock insanely hard (more of a trials course, than anything else), or do I totally suck?
I know a guy that has done it on a singlespeed. He use to live in NJ, moved out there a few years back. All he rides is singles. Some of my buds went out for a week to ride with him. They told me he just picked his way up, never put a foot down.
I have seen pic of it from them. I know that I would not make it up, and that is with 27 speeds.
