Are you sure it isn't skipping on the front rings? Sometimes, really
worn rings will skip like worn cogs.

It could also be a stiff link. Try back pedaling and watch for a
"skip" or stiff link where the chain runs through the derailleur.

Most likely your chain ring(s). Expensive lesson: don't let your chain
wear out too long, or it's whole-new-drivetrain time.

1. Did you properly adjust the chain length?
2. Did you purchase the right chain for your gear ratio?
