I've had an old 2nd hand road bike knocking about for a while. Unfortunately I knackered the gears (they locked into the spokes) a couple of months ago & the LBS (which mainly handles MTBs) couldn't get parts to fix it up. So for now I've taken the derailleur off & gone single-speed ... how well this will work remains to be seen.

looks like it has a double ring on the front & you took the derailleur off there too ... so chain tension'll not be a factor, are you expecting any problems ?
