  1. Ok...I know this one probably would do better over on the tech group,
but I figure I'm more after the "real world" side of things, not the
    technical pros and cons.

I'm looking for opinions regarding the pros and cons of single pivot
systems (a la Gary Fisher Cake or some Santa Cruz) vs. a four bar link
system (a la Specialized or Jamis) on a full suspension set-up.

Ok, I know there are some fundamental differences in the operation and
maintenance of both types of suspension, but from your experience, which
is more bullet-proof? flexes less? connects better? is easier to work
on? or leaves your legs more like rubber at the end of a long ride?

I'm not out to start a flame war about which brand is better, so leave
that [censored] out...but if you've ridden a couple back to back and want to
compare and contrast, by all means, name the bikes.

What I'm really after is some information beyond what I'll get from a
couple test rides as I look to get onto a double-boinger this year. I'm
not giving lot of detail about style of riding, rider weight or anything
like that for a good reason....it seems that there have been variation
on both single pivots and multi-links put out for all styles/weights of
riders so I'm after the no sales guy, bs-less, low-down version of real
    world user opinions.

Thanks in advance for your replies,

    Psycho Mike

The Jamis is basically a single pivot. as the Rear axle is attached to the
swingarm/chainstay. the diff between that the Specialized Horst link, is the
second pivot on the Jamis is above the rear axle, and the Specialized is
below, giving essentially a floating pivot.
I ride an Tracer, which is licensed from Specialized, and seems to have
less( IMO) pedal feedback when riding rough terrain.
