I was on a Winchester station platform with my bike this afternoon -
quite crowded because several trains were running late. There were also
nine cyclists - a group of five and individuals, which would normally
have me wondering who would get to the bike spaces first and who would
get left behind in the melee.
Then something happened that I had never heard before:
"The train approaching Platform 1 is the 1621 to Waterloo. Cyclists on
the platform are advised that ... <I was expecting 'spaces is limited'>
.... cycle accommodation is situated in carriages 3,4,8 and 9".
The train had 12 'official' bike spaces and everyone got on.
I award a Silver Star [1] to the helpful announcer at Winchester :-)
[1] It would have been Gold but the train was 19 minutes late.
