Yes some rocket scientist came up with this great idea. Now you have sections of roads where you have no breakdown lane to even ride in.

At least they gave you some berm to stay to the right of the grooves in! Even if they did put some drainage grates every 100 yards!

In Ohio, when they started grooving the fog line, they promised cyclists they would only groove roads that would leave 2' to the right of the grooves...[censored]! In most cases there is almost zero berm to ride on and it forces cyclists way left into vehicle traffic lanes!

Ours are spaced so they almost throw a road bike out of control...bouncing the front end all over the place and forcing the rider to swerve in an attempt to regain control.

ODOT is so screwed up it isn't funny!

And yes, they even do centerline grooving here in the state run by [censored] that never rode a bicycle as an adult. We started this insanity about 2010 and it's out of control! It's just another scam to blow taxpayer money on worthless projects that have little or no effect on crash statistics.

And try swerving from one side of the rumble strips to the other in those 10' gaps at 25 MPH.

Zipp, I'm sure you know that isn't a bicycle lane but a shoulder. The rumble strip is to keep traffic in their lane. We have those sorts of things around here and the shoulder will completely disappear in places which shoves you out into the traffic which appears to be doing rather safe speeds there. Here they would be going over 70 mph in a 40 mph zone.
