I've got a Shogun aluminium road frame I use for time-trialing. Have to say its a pretty cheap and
cheerful piece of kit and as its mostly going in straight lines and on the road its OK, but I
wouldn't fancy testing out the strength of the frame elsewhere tbh- like I said, seems a bit cheap
and cheerful.

Are you sure that one is made by CB, I seem to recall that Shogun are cheap imported frames, hence
quite a few companies were trying to flog them a few years back, but then that was road frames, so
maybe this is different.

Do you really need full sus? If so be prepared to pay alot more than that for something that will be effective.
Even if you're going to be riding technical single track a rigid will do you better unless you're downhill racing. For the same money you'd get a lighter, better equiped rigid.

It's actually made by Falcon who also make all the Claude Butlers. I have a Shogun hardtail which I
bought specificaly to ditch the components and use the frame (for 160 quid). Now that it's built up
with Marzocchi, LX and avid mech disks it's light very strong and a friend with a Cove stiffee of
similar speck has ridden it side by side and thinks it's an absolute stormer of a bike. That
doesn't help you with the xc300 though. But this WILL

the best full sus for under 500 in they're year end awards.

Thats for the lesser xc200 so the xc300 will fare better on the component spec, and the front fork.
don't believe what bike snobs will tell you about cheap bikes just like expensive ones that all
can't be tarred with the same brush. Shogun's bikes have constantly amazed me at the quality of the
frames and the rideability.
