Hello. I am new to road cycling and this forum as well. 2 Months ago I purchased a Trek 1000 thinking I would use it just for cardio/fat burn workout purposes. Well, now I am hooked and regret not getting a better bike. For now I would like to get bike shoes and the correct pedals to go with them because the whole sneaker/strap pedals are leaving my feet cramped and hurting after my longer rides (up to about 40 miles on weekends). I was hoping the correct equipment will fix that problem. Can someone point me to what I should buy????
P.S. I also ride a Ducati 748 superbike and after only 2 months I can't believe how much more enjoyable my rides are now given the amount of endurance my legs can stand. For those of you who don't know riding a sport bike through twisty roads is not as easy as it looks. Your butt is never on the seat and you are constantly repositioning yourself from one side of the bike to the other. I was already in good shape having spent at least 1 hour in the gym 5 days a week since high school (12 years now). But the endurance from the road bike makes a huge deal.

For shoes, just go to the LBS and try on all the shoes in your price range (FYI, they start at around $75). You can't really recommend shoes b/c everyone's foot is different. I tried on a few different shoes, and some fit my foot well, some didn't.
For pedals, I use ultegra (around $120-140). I tend to like pedals that have fairly large platforms, and that's what drew me towards the ultegras (Look 3.1A also nice pedals) and I have been happy with them thus far (~1000 miles on them). You can get cheaper ones, just check ebay and other internet vendors. Most shoe/pedal combos are interchangeable. Just make sure you get road shoes and road pedals.
