Shoes

I have been riding seriously for nearly 30 years and have yet to find a cycling shoe that was comfortable both on and off the bike. I do have some strange feet though, so this may not be a common occurence.🙁

I know that clipless pedals have been all the rage for the past 20 years and I had a go at them myself, but like you, I want to be able to walk around during the ride.😕 What works best for me is an old pair of platform pedals or quill pedals with good old toe clips and straps. With these I can wear a pair of running shoes. Unfortunately a pair of real hiking boots may be difficult to remove from the toe straps if the soles are really knobby, but how far are you going to hike when you have a bike you can ride?:p

I have a mountain bike configured with road tires and expect to ride on the road most, but dirt roads occationally. I want a shoe that will work with the bike but will also allow a mid ride hike. So, I want something that is comfortable while hiking. I looked at the Shimano web site and they offer a sneaker with bike clips, has anyone tried these? Does anyone have recommendations for a light bike shoe that can double as a hiking shoe?

Hey I use the Shimano MT31's they okay for general riding and some hiking good long wearing tread. For me the arch support is [censored] hence arch burn occasionally.
Only thing I suggest go velcro, avoid laces coz they can get caught in the crank and chain.
Make sure they fit you properly you will appreciate this if you are doing long rides/hikes. Everyones different maybe have a look at reviews such as mtbr under apparel / shoes.
The race or xc styled shoes are probably not as hard wearing when it comes to hiking so avoid these if you plan to hike a bit. Whatever you buy just make sure it suits your actual purpose. Try different brands to give you an idea of the differences and whats suits your foot plus walk around in them.
