You might want to check compatibility issues (shoe guide) from Speedplay's site. As mentioned in the FAQ, Zero and X cleats won't work with MTB shoes, new Frogs work with both road and MTB shoes. Someone with real-life experience on the subject may correct if I'm mistaken.

Most importantly, pick shoes that fit well. Too narrow shoes cause sides of the feet to ache. Sidi is one of the manufacturers to offer some shoes in various widths. Take a look at Time, Northwave (wide soles), Vittoria and Shimano, etc. Check the compatibility.

Try different shoes, the most expensive and visually appealing pair isn't necessarily the best one for your feet.

Good advice.

I would only add that you bought great pedals so why skimp on the shoes? Get the (compatible) shoes that feel the best on your feet. Down the road you'll wish you hadn't DQ'd a more expensive and comfortable pair of shoes if your dogs are barkin' 1/2 way into a long ride.
