Shipping bike from US to England

This is my first post though I've been reading this forum for almost a year now. There is a very good chance that I will be going away to England for 6 to 12 months. I'd like to take my bike with me and I was wondering if anyone had to go through a similar exeprience here, shipping frame internationally. If you have any valuable experiences, please share. Thanks a lot in a advance.

when my Dad brought his bike to France with several other people, they bought hard cases similar to this to put the bikes in http://www.performancebike.com/shop/Profile.cfm?SKU=23199&item=20-4549&slitrk=search&slisearch=true and had them on the plane as luggage, I think it was about $90 one way to put it on the plane. All the bikes went there and back without any damage being transported
