Shimano XT derailleur question

This will work fine with any recent Shimano setup, any number of speeds.
Derailers don't care how many speeds, that's just marketing hype.

As far as Shimano goes, it diesn't matter whiuch (Shimano) shifter or
the number of cogs, as this is determined BY the shift lever.

There will probably be a conflict between different makes of
shifter/derailer, though. For example, Shimano with Campy, or SRAM.

Except 8-speed Dura-Ace. Shimano decided to make that one system
incompatible with everything else. Alternate cable routing sorta works, but
isn't great.

Can you shift a fat 5-sp chain on 10-sp pulleys/cage?
