I'm thinking of upgrading to the Ultegra R600, and like the idea that maybe the cleats will last
longer than Looks. The .pdf from Shimano says:

"Use only SPD-SL shoes with this product. Other types of shoes may not release from the pedals, or
    may release unexpectedly."

So are new shoes really necessary, or is this CYA legalese? If true I'm going to look at
    other options.

    Thanks in advance, Steve

I've been using my Sidi Genius 4 shoes with the Ultegra R600's and they work perfectly. For some
reason, the mounting bolts supplied by Shimano aren't long enough to work with the Sidi shoes so
you'll need to use your Look screws until Shimano address this problem. Hopes this helps. The
Shimano cleats are great to walk in BTW!
