Shimano PD-M747

It was the top of the line offroad SPD for all the late 90's, but was
replaced (briefly) by the 858 and then by the 959.

And now, for the important bit: they suck. When there was nothing
better, they were better than nothing, but compared to the 959
(or even the cheaper version of the 959, the 540) they suck hard
and long.

Don't get your undies in a bunch trying to find some NOS 747's.
Just get the 540 (Shimano® PD-540 SPD® Pedal) or get the 959 if
you want a really *good* pedal.

I disagree. The 858s sucked the hardest but I think the 747s were the best
XC pedal Shimano made with the 959s somewhere between the two. I think the
959s are an improvement over the 858s but they still suffer from their
ability to get stuck in the clips if the cleat doesn't stay flat with
respect to the pedal which usually happens during emergency body language.
On 747s and before there was a small platform under the cleat that prevented
this, with the open air style starting with the 858 nothing prevents your
foot from rotating out and getting the cleat stuck at an awkward angle in
the pedal.

where the heck in Michigan I might be living, guys. You know of any US
company selling NOS from Shimanoa's?
