  1. I know...another compact thread. Does anyone have an opinion on the Shimano compact or the SRAM Rival compact. I'm buying one of them, and the Rival is about $100.00 less and includes the bottom bracket. Thanks

  2. IMHO I would stay with Shimano (although Campagnolo is, of course, better 😉).

Stay away from the new kids on the block for another year or so, and let others do the early adopting...

    Personal opinion, of course!

Have you considered the Ritchey WCS 100 V Compact? Weighs 570g. Cost $149.99US on sale at Performance Bike (before any 20% off coupon you can find):
    http://www.performancebike.com/shop/Profile.cfm?SKU=20106 (Shimano Octalink BB weighs 225g. Total w/ BB=795g.)

SRAM weighs 725g. with BB. Costs about $190 (BB included) at BikeTiresDirect (before any discounts).

Shimano weighs 820g. Cost $260 or so (less on sale), plus another $40 for bottom bracket.
