  1. I'm about to build a wheel with a Shimano 7-speed hub w/ roller brake.
My past efforts at using online spoke calculators with other hubs have
resulted in errors in spoke length, which leads me to believe I had
messed up the hub's dimensions. So my spokes have usually ended up a
bit too long and I have to file them down (if I'm lucky) or buy shorter
ones (after building the wheel up, which is no fun).

Shimano's website gives the full specs for their generator hub, but not
the 7-speed. I know the over-locknut is 130mm, and from what I can
measure the flange diameter is 85mm. From there it gets iffy...

So if any of you fine folks with Nexus wheelbuilding experience could
give me the correct numbers it would be most appreciated! Oh, and the
rim is an Arraya with an ID of 540mm...

    Thanks muchly,
    Mark

Hmm. I use Damon Rinard's spocalc.xls spreadsheet, and built up a nexus
7-speed hub with no trouble. It lists
    S dL WL dR WR
    2.6 87.0 31.2 87.0 23.5

where S=flange thickness, dL=left flange diameter, WL=left flange offset
from center, etc. Worked for me.

  3. Thanks David,

My measurements for the hub are pretty close to yours (within 2mm).
The spoke calc tells me I need 252 on the left side and 251 on the
right, so I'm in the ballpark fo what I had previously come up with.
Think I can get by with 252 all around? ;o)

I should say that this is the first time building with this hub. It was
with other hubs that I had made errors in the past.

    Cheers,
    Mark
