Does anybody have a drawing of how the cable connection is
supposed to be done for this ancient model? It has a pre-
selector function, but the way I have it set up, it wants
to pull the spring-loaded arm into the cage, and it
doesn't shift.

It sounds like your Lark is correctly hooked up but needs to
be put out to aviary (junkyard), as the spring rate on the
anchor arm has weakened to now less than that of the
parallelogram, instead of the reverse, as it once was. You
should be able to find a substantial upgrade for around $3

That's basically what I ended up figuring out.

I eventually got it to shift, though poorly, and then gave
up and put on a der from another yard sale bike I had
sitting around.
